The history of pre hospital care in Liverpool, UK.
The website is run by current and retired Ambulance Staff and is aimed at researching, charting and preserving the history of the Liverpool Ambulance Service from its origins to its current advanced and respected position as part of the leading provider of advanced pre-hospital care within the North West of England.
Although we start the origins in the City of Liverpool it references the neighbouring services, which over many decades have joined together, as part of a developing National Health Service to form what is now the North West Ambulance Service.
Obviously, the world of pre-hospital care is pretty much the same; whether you are elsewhere in the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, Middle East, Australasia or indeed anywhere where Ambulance help can be summoned by the simple tap of three telephone digits. Ambulance staff alongside their fellow emergency workers share a common bond in which they try; on every day and night duty, to respond appropriately and strive to save life and reduce mortality and morbidity or in simple terms help those who call upon us. Liverpool is a bustling city of great historical importance. Its lifeblood being the River Mersey has many ties to the rest of the World. The City and its people have influenced many things. These include songs by the Beatles such as Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields which mean many things to many people. For some of the men and women who have been part of the Ambulance Service they are roads they have probably been called to at some point in their career. It is this history of response that we want to preserve.
We hope that anyone who accesses the website will find an interesting source of history that they can enjoy, hopefully relate with and even contribute to.
It would be nice that through this website we provide some insight into the men and women who have been part of the Ambulance Service associated with Liverpool, Merseyside and Cheshire. Their dedicated public service deserves to be captured in history.
We recognise that the Service is now broader with a footprint covering the North West of England. It is appropriate that the people and their stories who have been part of the other Ambulance Services in the North West are told by other people and other websites.
The content of the site is considered factual by its guardians and if anyone would like to get in touch please use the contact form.
Through research capture our proud heritage and help those who have served remember their contributions.
